History
Dr. David Rowland, ex officio President of the International Organization of Nutritional Consultants, enjoys the simple pleasures of what nature has to offer. The tranquility of the Georgian Bay property, along with other properties in Tavistock, Devon, United Kingdom, and Sedona, Arizona, offered him opportunities to recharge and write the many books in health and nutrition that are published and distributed globally. Now, semi-retired, he is retreating into the pristine environment of rural New Brunswick.
The Property
Awesome, is the first word that comes to mind. Enchanting, is the second. Just five minutes off the Harrison Marina, a jog north of Parry Sound (Parry Sound History) hugging the cliffs of Horse Island, barely visible in the majestic pines, the Main Residence rests elegantly on a slow rise of rugged pink granite, part of the Canadian Shield. A few steps higher is the "Dojo". Only when the boat turns past the rocky expanse was the three large solar panels on the Storage Shed visible, along with the private tram rail leading to it from the dock. There are steps built for "difficult" parts, most of the pathways to the different areas of the property are through the natural rock formations - thus the eponymous title.
The Rowlands acquired the property about 10 years ago - 7.7 acres with 1,100' of pristine shoreline at the tip of Horse Island in Georgian Bay. Unbeknownst to them, they had joined a global elite group of notables including the Canadian Establishment - recording artist, old money and dotcom millionaires, American Entrepreneurs, German Industrialists and so on, who summer within a 5 mile radius. Naturalists at heart, they commissioned an area architect, Michael Kelly, renowned for his conceptual artistry, and Tim Tebo, renowned for his quality workmanship, to build this 3,500 + sq.ft. sumptuous retreat with water view for all principal rooms - R2000 standard (not certified) and "millennium proof1", that blends entirely into the surrounding environment. Ray Ruskie, a third generation interior artisan for the regional fine homes and worked in the interiors of the notables mentioned earlier, added the final touches. In my humble opinion, the Rowlands have redefined the term "naturalist" that may evoke images of overly simplistic lifestyles. Well traveled, the finished product is the epitome of the finest hotels and resorts they visited around the world - Corrian Counters throughout except for the granite counter in the "Nursery" where Ms. Rowland does her flower arrangements, oak and ceramic floors - all heated, tongue-and-groove paneling for a more "rustic" feel, a 6-piece Aqua Centre Ensuite from the Master Bedroom which also has hand painted floras on the marble fireplace, ambient lighting off oak bordered ceiling, brushed nickel and chrome taps, all rooms are distinct - most with Lake View and some have curved walls and so on. Ms. Rowland also ensured that all lighting has dimmer switches for them to enjoy the star lit skies. In continuation of "sparing no expenses" to modern facilities, they have brought in three phone lines, implemented reverse osmosis water treatment system and fenced the entire property to ensure privacy. For the added measure in security, the premises security system includes video surveillance and cellular notification as a back-up if the wires are severed - nice to know but it has not been necessary because of the natural barrier to the main land.
1"Millenium Proof" - The property is self-contained and sufficient for extended period of time with three solar panels backed up by a generator (Honda EM (Electric Manual) 6500S) and wood burning water heater as well as 300 gallon water storage tanks and commode.
